With its immaculate efforts, English Literary Association at SFS PU College strives to foster the flair for English Literature and Language Skills in students.

• The faculty members of English Department, periodically mentor and nurture a number of enterprising students to showcase their public speaking and creative writing skills. Besides, they hone their skills at reading, listening, vocabulary, grammar and comprehension through activities.
• These essential skills pave the way to explore the literary world and articulate their thoughts effectively and creatively for future endeavours. Altogether, it opens up a whole world of opportunities.
• Keeping this motive alive, Literary Association organised various contests for the academic year 2024-2025.
• These contests stimulated students’ creative thinking and confidence and encouraged them to display their novel ideas through active engagement.
• The first and foremost literary event for the academic year 2024-2025 was ‘PICTURE TO POEM’.
• It was held on 25-07-2024 for testing their imaginative artistic talent and language skills.
• An intriguing picture was presented on the screen for an hour and the students were sent on a voyage to their imaginary world and bring forth their poetic prowess.
• The response by the students was quite overwhelming both in number and poetic talent.
• A good number of quality poems were penned down by them.
• Later on, notice board on each floor bore these prize winning poems motivating some more students.
• The second event ‘THINK BEFORE YOU INK’was organised on 26-07-24 for enhancing their skills at vocabulary.
• Word grid and crossword puzzles were asked to solve.
• A large number of participants enthusiastically took part with zeal and competitive spirit.
• These enthusiastic participants proved their mettle in the best possible way.
• Last but not the least, Standup Comedy which is first of its own kind at SFS PU College was organised on 27-07-2024.
• Students devised sarcasm, wit and skilfully crafted comedy based on real life situations.
• It too was well received and appreciated by both participants and the audience.
• Such events do appreciate and reward students with great opportunities to kindle their creativite capabilities. They would be able to overcome stage fright and low self confidence by taking part in such competitions.
• With the assistance of such activities, they would develop interest in the literary world and acquire the skills needed to showcase their talents effectively.

Saint Francis Sales Pre-University College’s Vibrant English Literary Odyssey

Saint Francis Sales Pre-University College recently hosted a range of engaging English activities for its students, aiming to foster creativity, confidence, and language skills.

1. Spell Bee Contest (I PU):
Conducted in two rounds, the contest tested students' spelling skills. In the oral spelling round, participants spelled words aloud, and the top scorers proceeded to the written spelling test. A rapid-fire round was held for students with a tie, where they had to spell as many words as possible within a minute.

2. Cook Up a Story (I PU):
Students created short stories with morals based on image prompts. The final round required participants to narrate their stories within 3-5 minutes, showcasing creativity, originality, and language skills.

3. Word Mash-Up (II PU):
Students crafted poems using 6-8 given poetic words, demonstrating creativity and originality. The poems were judged on language, expression, structure, and presentation.

4. Dramatic Monologue (II PU):
Participants wrote and performed original monologues, portraying historical or fictional characters. The performances were evaluated on costume, expression, voice modulation, characterization, and stage presence.

The final rounds for I PU and II PU activities were held in the auditorium on 16 th and 23 rd August 2025, respectively. Judges panel included faculty of S.F.S High School and P.U. College. Esteemed judges were felicitated with flowers and gifts for their expertise and cooperation. Students from all streams participated enthusiastically, showcasing their talents and creativity. The events concluded with prize distribution, recognizing the winners' achievements and encouraging future participation.

On July 18, 2024, two Tamil competitions were held simultaneously from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., honoring two of India’s great leaders. The essay competition focused on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, with participants expressing their insights in Tamil and receiving valuable feedback from Mr. Murali. Concurrently, a Tamil speech competition on Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam allowed students to share inspiring reflections on his legacy, judged by Mr. Anthony. Both competitions were enriched by the judges' guidance, providing a meaningful platform for participants to engage with history and language.

In the month of July 2024 we conducted a vibrant French Language Event, which included a SPELL BEE, POÈME ÉCRITURE, and CHOISIR ET PARLER. Competition providing students with engaging platform to showcase their linguistic powers and creativity. Each Competition allowed participants to delve into the beauty of French language, fostering both learning and confidence in their language skills.

OBJECTIVE: To develop scientific temperament, provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and innovative ideas, to encourage learning by doing and hands-on experience.

ABOUT THE EVENT: 27 working models were displayed based on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, and Computer Science. Each model explained the applications of scientific principles. The participants demonstrated their projects with confidence and clarity, making the exhibition informative and engaging.

The best models were evaluated by a panel of judges based on innovation, presentation, and practical application.

CONCLUSION: The science exhibition was a grand success and fulfilled its objectives of enhancing scientific thinking and creativity among students. It provided a valuable learning experience and inspired students to explore science beyond the classroom. The event concluded with appreciation for the participants and organizers for their dedicated efforts.

Objective: To foster scientific curiosity and celebrate the contributions of great scientists.

About the event: The events aimed to encourage students to explore the achievements of renowned scientists through the medium of art.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of our college. Participants were required to draw "Scientists known as the Father of Their Fields ", of their choice and were encouraged to include a short write - up about the scientists discoveries and impact on the world.

A total of 38 students participated. Portraits featured eminent scientists such as Albert Einstein, Rutherford, Aristotle, Carolus Linnaeus etc.,

The artwork was judged based on relevance to the theme, Accuracy & likeness, Originality, Neatness & composition, The relevance of the accompanying write - up.

Conclusion: The event successfully combined art with science and inspired students to appreciate the lives of those who have shaped the scientific world. It was a memorable and enriching experience for all.

Science Association had conducted the PowerPoint Presentation Competition for students of I & II PU with the aim of inculcating insightful analysis and problem solving techniques.

Students had actively participated and provided incredible presentations.

The theme was “Science in Action – Problem Solving for better tomorrow”.

It was a team event and each team comprised of 2 participants. The students had to select one among the below mentioned topics:

1. Waste Management (household waste, plastic & e-disposal)
2. Affordable renewable energy ideas.
3. Malnutrition & hidden hunger.
4. Cyberbullying among teenagers.

The participants had meticulously researched the topic and provided outstanding solutions to the problems.

The judges and the audiences applauded the participants for their impressive presentation.

Objective: To instill a sense of competitiveness among students and promote scientific knowledge.

About the Event:The quiz competition aimed to foster a spirit of inquiry and learning among students. By participating in such events, students develop essential skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. The quiz competition was conducted on 13th August 2025 at the SFS Degree College Auditorium, between an Inter-class PCMB-A, PCMB-B and PCMC.

Twenty students were selected for the quiz based on their performance in an objective based test (Prelims). The groups were named "The AI Squad, The Ampere Avengers, The Avogadro's army, The Pythagoreans & The Gene Team".

The quiz consisted of four rounds: Science Round, General knowledge round, Visual & Audio Round and Rapid Fire Round.

The Pythagoreans were declared the winners, The AI Squad secured the second position, and The Ampere Avengers came in third.

Conclusion: The Science Department Quiz Competition is an excellent example of SFS PU College's efforts to promote academic excellence and student engagement. Such events play a vital role in shaping the intellectual and social skills of students.

Science Exhibition for the academic year 2024-2025 was organised by Science Association on 2nd September 2024 from 10 a.m to 3:30p.m

Not only it served as a pivotal event to ignite curiosity and promote scientific temper in students but also gave the young student scientists a perfect platform to exhibit their creative scientific ideas revolving around the themes of contemporary significance namely robotics, unmanned ground vehicles, gas leakage detector, acid rain and DNA extraction by fruits and many more.

Students got a unique opportunity to demonstrate and explain their ideas to fellow students from the sister concerns of SFS campus which in turn enhanced their confidence and communication.

The interactive discussion on the conceptual learning strengthened their theoretical understanding as well as its implications

In every competition, there are no winners or losers, only learners.. The quiz instills a sense of competitiveness among students, encouraging them to think and work independently while honing their learning skills.

To test students’ knowledge, competence, and proficiency in various science topics, an Inter-Section Science Quiz for classes PCMB and PCMC was conducted on 28th August 2024 at the SFS Degree College Auditorium.

Twenty students were selected for the quiz based on their performance in an objective-based test. The groups were named Math Magicians, Marvel Models, Lipid Legends, and Gravity Gang. The quiz consisted of six rounds: Science Round, Identify the Picture Round, Audio Round, Sports Round, Indian History-Political Round, and Rapid Fire Round.

Lipid Legends were declared the winners, Gravity Gang secured the second position, and Marvel Models came in third. The students not only gained knowledge but also enjoyed answering varied question compiled for them

Inauguration of the Science Association as well as Fresher's Day and awarding ceremony was organised at SFS Degree College Auditorium, Hebbagodi around 2.00pm on 26 th June 2024.
The MC team 'Harshitha and Suman' announced the arrival of the guests to this significant occasion. Ruben and the team invoked the blessings of God. Sulaiman Hasan Khan, a 2 nd year student welcomed the gathering. The event began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the esteemed guests of the day.
Ms. Deepika,a 2 nd year student introduced the honorable Chief Guest, Dr. Lavanya Kiran to the audience. She elaborated on the importance of maintaining a healthy life and advised the students to develop scientific temper and contribute something worthwhile to the world of Science.
President, Rev.Fr Binu and our beloved Principal Rev.Fr.Staney felicitated the Chief Guest Dr. Lavanya Kiran.
Ms. Karline, a 2 nd year student introduced the President of the event, Rev.Fr.Binu to the audience. He extended his good wishes to all the students and motivated them with an inspiring illustration of raindrops reaching destination inspite of their variation in the form and speed.
Principal Rev.Fr Staney Rodrigues and Academic Coordinator Murali Sir felicitated Rev.Fr.Binu, the Principal of SFS Degree College and also the superior of Mermier Bhavan Community for gracing the occasion with his presence and also, inspiring the students with his words of wisdom to motivate and set new examples of excellence.
The Science Association for the year 2024-25 was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Lavanya ma'am, President Rev.Fr.Binu, our beloved Principal Rev. Fr. Staney Rodrigues, Academic Coordinator Murali sir, HOD of Science Dept Girija Ma'am.
Ms. Nirjala Chauhan, the science topper of II PU board exam who has secured 98.1%, who is a 10 th rank holder of the State and a centum holder in 3 subjects i.e., Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science for the academic year 2023-24 was awarded with a tab, Certificates and mementos. Also, her parents were felicitated by the Chief Guest Dr. Lavanya ma'am, President Rev.Fr.Binu, our beloved Principal Rev. Fr. Staney Rodrigues, Academic Coordinator Murali sir, HOD of Science Dept Girija Ma'am. This was a proud moment for the institution.
Further,freshers of I PU science felt thrilled viewing the western dance performance by Kinetic girls group of II PU Science stream.
Certificates and mementos were distributed to the toppers of 2 nd PU and centum scorers of the academic year 2023-24 by the Chief Guest, Dr.Lavanya Kiran, the Principal of SFS PU College, Rev.Fr.Staney on this occasion.
Distribution of the certificates and mementos to the remaining toppers of 2 nd PU was further carried forward by the President of the event, Rev.Fr.Binu
The 1 st PU toppers and centum scorers were also awarded by the academic coordinator, Murali Sir and Science Dept. HOD, Girija ma'am for the academic year 2023-24.
The most awaited dance program by “the Groovers" set the stage on fire. Their impeccable movements and rhythms were captivating.
The guiding force and inspiring person of our college, Principal Rev.Fr Staney Rodrigues shared his views elaborating the example of rain drops, given by Rev.Fr. Binu.
“Gratitude is the memory of heart." Mamatha, a 2 nd year science student proposed the vote of thanks. The program concluded with the national Anthem.
The 1 st year PU Desalites were briefed about the rules and regulations of the College. by the Academic Coordinator Murali Sir.

The inaugural ceremony of Science Department and Science day for the academic year 2023-24 took place on 11-9-2023 and 12-9-23 in the College Auditorium.
Active participation of the students in Quizzes, Exhibition, was appreciated and encouraged by Principal and Staff.
Scientific eagerness of the students was also witnessed by students of SFS High School.

The Commerce Department of SFS PU College, under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Staney Rodrigues, Principal, and Mrs. Clerina, Head of the Department of Commerce, organized the Financial Literacy and Investment Plan activity on 6th August 2026 in the 4th floor l PCMC LILY Class at 1 PM to 3:40pm. The programme aimed to create awareness about financial planning and investment among students.

A total of 11 teams participated in the event, including 5 teams from II PUC and 6 teams from I PUC. The participants presented innovative and practical investment plans with great enthusiasm.

The competition was judged by Mrs. Malathi, Head of the Department of English, and Mrs. Kajal, Psychology Lecturer. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Clerina, Mr. Murali, and Mrs. Marine of the Commerce Department.

The Commerce Department expresses its sincere gratitude to Rev. Fr. Staney Rodrigues, Mrs. Clerina, the judges, and all the participants for making the event a great success.

The Department of Commerce, SFS PU College, organized the Mystery Box Challenge on 29 July 2026 with the theme
"Innovate . Pitch . Invest." The event encouraged students to think creatively and showcase their entrepreneurial skills.

Students from I PUC and II PUC enthusiastically participated in the individual competition. Each participant was given a mystery box containing surprise items and was challenged to develop an innovative product or business idea and present it before the judges.

The event witnessed remarkable creativity, confidence, and innovative thinking, making it a grand success. It provided students with an excellent opportunity to develop problem-solving, presentation, and entrepreneurial skills while inspiring them to think beyond the ordinary.

The Commerce Association organized a Mini Shark Tank on 18th and 21st August, with 20 teams from I PU and II PU showcasing their innovative business ideas. Students confidently pitched their concepts before the judges, highlighting creativity, feasibility, and marketing strategies. The event provided a practical platform to develop entrepreneurial skills, teamwork, and confidence, leaving participants motivated and inspired.

"Knowledge is Power, but only when applied!"

The Commerce Department of SFS PU College hosted an exciting Business Quiz Competition on 22 nd September 2025 at the SFS Degree College Auditorium. The event witnessed a spirited contest among the I and II PUC commerce students.

A total of twenty students were selected for the quiz based on their performance in the preliminary objective-based test. The selected students were grouped into five teams: Business Brains, Economic Eagles, Ledger Legends, Heritage Hunters, and Data Dynamos.

The quiz comprised of four engaging rounds: Business Terminology, Visual Connect, Audio, and Rapid Fire. These rounds not only intensified the competition but also kept the audience thoroughly entertained.

After a fierce battle of intellect, Ledger Legends were declared as winners, while Data Dynamos secured the runner-up position.

The quiz proved to be both educational and enjoyable, as participants enthusiastically tackled a variety of challenging questions that tested their business knowledge and quick thinking.

"Rising Stronger, Shining Brighter"
The Commerce Association of St. Francis Sales PU College will be organizing the activity "Rebranding of Fallen Giants" on 17th September 2025 at 10:00 AM. The program is designed to enhance students' strategic thinking, creativity, communication, and marketing skills by challenging them to analyze, reimagine, and pitch revival strategies for once- successful but now-declined brands.

The Commerce Association of SFS PU College successfully organized an exciting Marketing for Sales Competition on 4th August 2025 at 1:00 pm in the College Auditorium. The event aimed to encourage creativity, quick thinking, and marketing skills among students.
A total of 52 enthusiastic participants actively took part, showcasing their talent in product promotion, persuasive communication, and innovative sales strategies. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with cheers, applause, and brilliant ideas from the young marketers.
The competition not only tested the participant's spontaneity but also nurtured their confidence and presentation skills. The audience witnessed a variety of unique marketing pitches that reflected both wit and professionalism.
The Commerce Association expressed appreciation to all participants, faculty members, and volunteers for making the event a grand success. The program concluded with the announcement of winners and a note of encouragement for all to continue sharpening their entrepreneurial skills.

Literary Association Activities were culminated with the prize distribution ceremony on 13th January 2025 in the CBSE Amphitheatre at 1:30 p.m. It was organised on the eve of 'FRENCH DAY.' Respected Principal Rev. Staney Rodrigues, Academic Coordinator Mr. Murali, the HOD of Commerce Department Mrs.Swathi ,the faculty members of commerce and language departments, the participants and the winners graced the occasion. After the ceremonial practices of invocation, welcome speech, the annual report of literary association for the academic year 2024 & 2025 was presented by the HOD Mrs.Gayathri. The audience was briefed about the events conducted for the academic year. It was followed by the prize distribution ceremony. The winners were presented the trophies and the merit certificates by the Principal. A very impressive Compering was done in French and English that stole the hearts of the audience. Besides, the audience was delightfully treated with a soothing French song. Further, Annual Report of the Commerce Association for the academic year 2024 -2025 was presented by the HOD Mrs.Swathi.It was followed by the prize distribution ceremony for its thought provoking and enterprising events such as Role Play ,Product Launch ,Mock Interview and Advertisement Copy.Having gained the recognition for their potential, the winners were seen elated with confidence. The event was concluded on a happy note by proposing vote of thanks to the dignitaries and the attendees. It was indeed a rewarding moment for the organisation itself.

The Product Launch Event at SFS PU College was a resounding success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of students and the unwavering support of faculty members. The primary objective of the event was to inspire creativity, innovation, and teamwork among the students.

A total of 12 groups from various classes participated, presenting innovative products and ideas. Students showcased their creativity, marketing acumen, and collaborative skills through engaging presentations.

The event witnessed outstanding talent and teamwork as students pitched their innovative ideas. The Principal commended the students efforts and shared constructive feedback, emphasizing the importance of innovation. The event provided an excellent platform for students to bridge theoretical concepts with practical application, enhancing their learning experience.

The Product Launch Event successfully achieved its goals of fostering creativity and promoting teamwork among students. It also strengthened the bond between students and faculty through collaborative engagement and interactive learning.

The commerce association of SFS PU College organised the role play competition for the I PU and II PU students. Role play allows students to assume the role or tasks of a job by participating or stimulating real-world conditions. The objective of role play is to learn, improve and develop upon the skills and competences necessary for a specific position. Students actively participated in the event.

"Teamwork Makes the Dream Work"
Advertisement Copy Competition was held on 12th of August 2024 in the college premises by the Department of Commerce. It was a Group activity and each group consisted of 2 students. Forty three groups actively participated in the event from the Department of Commerce. The theme of the competition was to make an advertisement for a Digital Payment app, Cosmetics, and Electronic Scooter. A wide range of innovative ideas exhibited by the enthusiastic participants made the event a great success.

Inauguration of Commerce Association together with Fresher’s day and Academic Excellence Award Ceremony is carried out on 27th June 2024 between 1:30pm and 3:30pm in the college auditorium.

The event is graced by Mr.KP Ramke, The Managing Partner of SS Associates and tax and management consultant, multifaceted personality and an alumnus of SFS PU College, The Manager of SFS Group of Institutions Rev.Fr. Joshy Philip, The Principal of SFS Degree College Rev.Dr. Binu Edathuparambil, The Principal of SFS PU College, Rev.Fr. Staney Rodriguez, Academic Coordinator Murali Sir, Head of the Department Mrs.Swathi. Customary and ceremonial practices of prayer dance, welcome speech, lighting the lamp are followed by the Inauguration of Commerce Association by unveiling the commemorative plaque.

Inspirational speeches by the dignitaries have emphasized on the co-curricular activities. Desalites are advised to partake actively in the association activities to develop and explore their strengths and talents for a wholesome personality. Cheerful juniors are welcomed exuberantly. Felicitation to the topper in the commerce stream SHUBHAM KUMAR MISHRA for securing 9th rank at the state level with 98% remains the crowning moment of the event. The academic excellence awards ceremony for the top scorers of 2023-2024 has set the momentum for the junior desalites to be goal oriented. A scintillating dance performance by girls and a vibrant karate display showing strength and skill have captured the attention of the audience. The programme is concluded by rendering vote of thanks and saluting the nation with National Anthem.

Commerce day was celebrated on 25/11/2023 in the college auditorium. The program began with a prayer dance. Rev.Father Staney Rodrigues, the Principal, HODs of various department witnessed the program.

The report of the academic year was presented by Swathi madam, the HOD of Commerce Department. Prizes were also distributed for the winners of the different events organized during the year. The student’s participation enriched the beauty of the program.

Inauguration of commerce association and Logo designing competition-----

The inauguration of the SFS PU COMMERCE ASSOCIATION was a momentous event that marked the beginning of a new chapter for the commerce students. Held on the 19th August, 2023, the ceremony brought together Principal, students and faculty to celebrate the launch of this significant initiative.

The event commenced with a warm welcome, followed by prayer song, lighting of the lamp, Principal's address. Rev. Fr. Staney shared insights into the importance of cocurricular activities in today's competitive market, he encouraged students to grab such opportunities and make most of it.

The inauguration concluded with a vote of thanks and the day further progressed with the first activity from commerce department - "Logo designing competition". -- with the topic 'ECO FRIENDLY BUSINESS. 82 students from various sections of commerce stream participated and filled the day with their creativity, enthusiasm and ideas.

The Second activity organised by Commerce Department on 24 th August 2023 - "Role Play". -- With the topic 'ANGRY CUSTOMER AND MANAGER'. The competition started by Welcoming the Principal Rev Fr. Staney Rodrigues and Judges of day were Mr. Sadashiv and Mrs.Girija from Science Department and Mrs.Meenakshi from Humanities Department. It was a Group activity and each group constituted of 2 to 3 students.14 groups actively participated in the event, The Judges evaluated each Group and the students presented their new ideas with Enthusiasm.

In a coordinated effort to introduce a new wave of innovation and creativity to the emerging market, the Commerce Department proudly hosted its third and most innovative product launch event.

The aim was clear: to captivate the audience with ground breaking ideas and visionary concepts.

The event commenced with a sense of anticipation as the competition was declared open, and the atmosphere was electric with excitement. Students presented their products using compelling PowerPoint presentations and intricate models, bringing their visions to life for the audience to witness.

The products and concepts presented were not merely ideas; they were the seeds of transformation in an ever – evolving market.

This product launch was not just a competition; it was a celebration of innovation, creativity, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. It served as a reminder that with vision and determination, we can shape the future and redefine the boundaries of what’s possible in the business world.

Total Participants: 32 students
The treasure hunt event conducted on Saturday, 25th October, was a huge success, with 32 students from 3 teams participating with high energy and enthusiasm. The event was designed to test teamwork, problem-solving skills, and creativity, and the students rose to the challenge.

Event Highlights:
- After team segregation, the teams were asked to participate in a fun physical challenge to get the first clue. Each team member had to drop a basketball thrice from a designated spot to get the first clue.

- Team Pink started first, followed by Team Green, and then Team Blue. The teams showed great sportsmanship and teamwork as they worked together to complete the challenge.

- The first clue led the teams on a wild adventure around the campus, with each subsequent clue building on the previous one.

The treasure hunt event received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the participants, who praised the creativity and difficulty level of the clues. The event was a great success in promoting teamwork, camaraderie, and fun, and we look forward to hosting more such events in the future.

The arts department students of SFS P.U College organise a heartfelt outreach programme by visiting Maria Nivas Old Age Home in Huskur on December 2nd .the purpose of the visit was to spread joy, love and companionship among the elderly residents and to engage them through cultural and recreational activities.

The programme commenced at 10:AM with prayer song, setting a serene and respectful atmosphere. This was followed by a series of vibrant cultural performances by the students .which included solo dance ,solo singing ,group dance Christmas carols and a cheerful Santa that brought smiles to everyone present. Students also distributed chocolates ,adding sweetness to the celebrations.

As a gesture of love and support, the students offered the residents flowers, handmade cards and essential groceries that would contribute to their daily needs. These gifts symbolized care ,respect and the spirit of giving. The elderly women were participated enthusiastically. Their active involvement created moments of laughter and joy ,making the event even more memorable

One of the highlights of the day was delightful dance performance by the sisters from the convent, which added warmth and unity to the celebration. The old age home houses 18 elderly women, all of whom enjoyed the programme wholeheartedly. They shared their memories, experience and even some of their sorrows appreciating the companionship and joy brought by the students. Many of them joined in dancing ,expressing their happiness and gratitude.

To conclude the visit ,the students presented with a small token of love in the form of thoughtful gifts marking the end of a touching and meaningful event. The Visit to Maria Nivas Old age Home was a deeply enriching experience for the students of SFS P U College . It fostered empathy, social responsibility and the value of compassion. The interaction left a lasting impact on both the students and the residents, strengthening the bond between genrrations.

The department of Humanities organized a Memory Game Competition on 8th September, 2025 with the objective of encouraging their concentration, recall ability and presence of mind. The event was conducted in three rounds, each designed to test different aspects of memory.

In the first round, participants were shown a set of pictures for a limited period of time and were later asked to recall and list items as possible. The second round presented a series of words, and participants had to retrieve them accurately. The third and final round combined both visual and verbal stimuli, challenging participants to recall objects and words under time constraints.

Students participated with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. The winners were declared based on their ability to retrieve the maximum number of words and objects correctly across all three rounds.

The competition not only showcased the student's memory skills but also highlighted the importance of focus and observation in learning. The competition came to close with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the principal, faculty, organizers and participants for making the event a success

The Humanities Department of St. Francis Sales P.U. College organized an educational trip to Vidhana Soudha on 19th August. The visit was aimed at providing students with practical exposure to the functioning of the State Legislature and enhancing their understanding of parliamentary proceedings.

The journey commenced at 9:00 a.m. from the college campus. Upon arrival at 11:00 a.m., the students were briefed about the safety protocols and the procedures to be followed inside the Vidhana Soudha premises.

The highlight of the visit was the opportunity for the students to enter the Legislative Assembly Session. They observed the Winter Session arguments, gaining first-hand experience of how discussions, debates, and decision-making processes are carried out under the guidance of the Speaker of the House. This experience provided valuable insights into the working of the democratic system at the state level.

The trip was not only informative but also inspiring, as it fostered civic awareness and encouraged students to become more responsible and active citizens.

The Humanities Department expresses its gratitude to the college management for their support in organizing this enriching educational experience.

An exciting and thought provoking programme was held at St. Francis sales P U college that was organised by the Department of Humanities with the aim of encouraging critical thinking , creativity and deeper understanding of world history and contemporary History among students, instead of simply recalling facts. Participants were asked to imagine alternate possibilities in history by answering questions that began with " What if.... "

The event began with a welcome address by Pawani Rahul Patwardhan II HESPsy . Our beloved principal Rev. Fr Staney Rodrigues graced the event. The event was conducted to urge the students to explore history beyond textbooks and think about how even one small change in the past that could have reshaped the present history.

Some of the interesting topics are given to the students. The students were asked to choose a topic of their choice to speak for 4- minutes.

The topics follow as given below;
What if.... Subhas Chandra Bose returned and taken power ?
What if.... India had never been colonized by Britishers ?
What if........ Cold war turned in to world war III ?
What if .... Mahatma Gandhi had chosen violence over non-violence ?

The students impressed the audience with their delightful speeches, logical arguments and imaginative ideas of great personalities . it was really cherishing movement.

After all the presentation, the judges- appreciated the excellent level of creativity and remarked that such exercises promote a deeper understanding of the consequences of historical events.

The programme was ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Aaron Moses I HEPS.

The "What if " Alternative version of history challenge was not just a competition - it was a unique learning experience that helped everyone realise the importance of critical thinking in understanding the past and shaping the future.

The humanities association of St. Francis sales PU college organised a unique and thought- provoking event titled "Talk of the Dead" on 13 th August for the students of HEPS/HEPSY. The programme aimed to creatively bring historical and cultural figures to life, allowing the audience to relieve their journeys and understand their contributions to society.

A total of 12 students participated in the event, each representing a famous personality from history and culture. Some of the notable portrayals included Meera Bai, Kalpana Chawla, Bhagat Singh , Anne Frank, Onake Obavva, Rani Padmavathi ,Bipin Chandrapal, Swami Vivekananda Vincent Vang Goh,Robert Oppenheimer and Phoolan Devi. Participants narrated the life stories of these personalities, highlighting their struggles, achievements and the values they stood for.

What made the event truly engaging was the blend of storytelling and enactment. Not only students spoke about their characters, lives but also enacted key movements with great skill, adding emotional depth and realism to their performances. Costumes, gestures and expressions were effectively used to transport the audience in to the eras of these personalities.

The session was both educational and entertaining, offering valuable insights in to the lives of inspiring figure while encouraging students to express themselves through performance art. The enthusiasm of the participants and the appreciative response from the audience made the event a resounding success.

The " Talk of the Dead" was indeed a memorable experience, leaving everyone inspired and more connected to the rich tapestry of history and human spirit.

A two-day educational trip to Belur, Halebidu, and Chikmagalur was organized by the humanities department to provide students with an immersive experience in history, architecture, and nature. The excursion aimed to enhance their knowledge of Karnataka's cultural heritage while fostering camaraderie among peers and faculty.

The journey began early on 16th November, with students and faculty departing from campus via bus. Students were taken to Shravanabelagola, which is known for its gigantic Bahubali statue. The students then visited the Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu and Chennakeshava Temple in Belur, known for its intricate architecture, the temples offered a glimpse into Karnataka’s glorious past. The day ended with a campfire.

The second day commenced with a scenic drive to Chikkamagalur, a hill station renowned for its coffee plantations and serene landscapes.

The group explored the Mullayanagiri Peak, the highest point in Karnataka, which offered breath-taking views and an opportunity for some light trekking. Students also got a chance to visit Bababudangiri and a view point amidst the majestic mountains of Chikkamagalur. The trip was a resounding success, blending education and recreation in a balanced manner. It not only expanded the students' academic horizons but also allowed them to unwind in the lap of nature. Special thanks are extended to the principal, organizing committee, faculty coordinators, and student volunteers for their efforts in ensuring the smooth execution of the trip.

The trip concluded with a return journey to the college. Students shared their reflections and experiences during the ride, making the journey memorable.

Inauguration of Humanities Association, Fresher's Day and Awarding Ceremony

Humanities and Social Sciences are the academic disciplines that study the various aspects of human culture and society. In view of promoting these disciplines, Inauguration of Humanities Association together with Freshers’Day and Academic Excellence Award Ceremony was held at SFS College Auditorium on 28th June 2024 between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm.

As per the conduct of the programme, prayer song, welcome speech and ceremonial lighting of the lamp were carried out smoothly. The Chief Guest Mr.Ithihas Patapat ,an alumnus of SFS PU College and accomplished lawyer motivated students with an impactful address. Reverend Father Joshy Philip,the Manager of SFS Group of Institutions,Respected Principal Reverend Staney Rodriguez, The Academic Coordinator Murali Sir and the HOD Abey Sir graced the occasion.Alluring dance performances as well as humorous and educative skit by senior desalites excited the cheerful juniors.The topper of the Arts Stream Ms.Madhumitha and her parents were felicitated on this occasion.The Academic Excellence Award Ceremony continued for the distinction holders and I PU Toppers by the dignitaries.The programme was concluded by extending a thank you note to all and singing national anthem.

The Department of Arts, with the joint efforts of its HOD, Mr. Abey Abraham and faculty conducted the Humanities Association Day on 17 th October, 2023. An Elementary program was lead to celebrate and rejoice the power of Arts.

The program commenced with a prayer song to invoke the presence of the Almighty God. It was then succeeded by disclosing the annual report by the HOD.

The first year students presented a peppy Indo- Western dance performance to which the audience grooved.

The second year students portrayed a Mime performance conveying the message that “What course you take doesn’t matter. Even if you take up the stream of Arts, you can reach great heights in life.”

The gathering was later addressed by our beloved Principal Rev. Fr. Staney Rodrigues who motivated and inspired the students with his wise words.

The program came to a close with the national anthem.

Logo designing competition was held on 13 th of October, 2023 in the college auditorium by Department of Humanities. 27 students from the department participated in the competition. The theme of the competition was to design a logo for the Humanities Association. All the students actively participated in the competition with a great amount of ideas exhibited.
